~JB - Reset Battery Dead

Overview

The ~JB command resets the battery dead condition for Battery Powered Font Cards. This command must be sent after replacing a failed battery to restore card functionality, or can be used to intentionally clear/reinitialize a card.

Syntax

Parameters

None

Description

  • Resets battery dead indicator
  • Restores battery-backed memory functionality
  • Must be sent after battery replacement
  • Allows card reinitialization

When to Use

Battery Replacement

When battery fails:

  1. Battery Powered Font Card shows "battery dead" on configuration label (~WC)
  2. Replace the battery
  3. Send ~JB command
  4. Card becomes functional again

Card Reinitialization

  • Intentionally clear/reinitialize card
  • Card must not be write-protected
  • Removes all stored fonts and data

Important Notes

⚠️ CRITICAL: Without ~JB after battery replacement:

  • Card will NOT function
  • Printer cannot use stored fonts
  • Card status shows "battery dead"
  • Must send ~JB to restore operation

After Battery Replacement

~JB

Resets battery condition after battery replacement.

Full Recovery Process

  1. Power off printer
  2. Replace battery on Font Card
  3. Power on printer
  4. Send: ~JB
  5. Card is now restored

Typical Symptoms

Before ~JB

  • Battery indicator shows failed
  • Card cannot store new fonts
  • Existing fonts may be inaccessible

After ~JB

  • Battery indicator clears
  • Card fully functional
  • Ready for font storage
  • ~DT - Download TrueType Font
  • ~DS - Download Scalable Font
  • ^JB - Initialize Flash Memory
  • ~WC - Print Configuration Label
