^MU - Mode Units
Sets units of measurement (dots, inches, or millimeters)
^MU - Mode Units
Overview
The ^MU command sets the printer's units of measurement for field definitions. It works on a field-by-field basis and carries over from field to field until a new mode units command is entered, allowing mixed unit types within a single label format.
Syntax
^MUaParameters
- a = Units measurement (required)
- D = Dots (default)
- I = Inches
- M = Millimeters
Description
- Specifies units for coordinates and dimensions
- Applies to all subsequent fields until changed
- Can be mixed within single label format
- Affects field origin (^FO), dimensions (^GB), positions, etc.
Measurement Units
Dots (D)
- Default unit
- Resolution-dependent
- 203 DPI (8 dots/mm): 203 dots/inch
- Most precise control
Inches (I)
- Standard imperial measurement
- Useful for US-based designs
- 4 inches = 812 dots at 203 DPI
Millimeters (M)
- Metric measurement
- Useful for international designs
- 100 mm = 793.7 dots at 203 DPI
Usage Notes
- Setting applies to all subsequent fields
- Each ^MU command changes units for following fields
- Can be mixed within single format
- Coordinates interpreted according to current unit
- Default at format start is dots (D)

Using Dots
